Music

Someone commented on the Belgium post about music and since I'm procrastinating on sleep (heh), I shall write something in response now. Anyway, I haven't actually picked up any interesting music here because I don't have a TV (this makes me sad because TV actually helps a lot with language learning) or radio, and I don't go out enough to hear what they're playing in clubs and such... though I checked out the Top 40 charts here and most of it is the same as Top 40 back in the States. There are a smattering of German/Austrian songs, but the only stuff I knew was Die Atzen (if you're in GC, you probably know it thanks to the Disco Pogo song/Jess).

However, I can tell you what I've been listening to lately, if it is of any interest, heh. I'll just do a small sampling of songs. I am in my "summer" music phase now, which usually means lots of electronic/kind of mellowish stuff. This is a pretty drastic flip from my "normal" (winter?) music which is generally heavier, as you may or may not know.

  1. Dikta - Just Getting Started
  2. Apparat Organ Quartet - Konami
  3. múm - Húllabbalabbalúú, Blow Your Nose, Kay-ray-kú-kú-kó-kex, Blessed Brambles
  4. Jónsi - Boy Lilikoi, Kolniður, Animal Arithmetic (eh, okay, basically the entire "Go" album)
  5. Seabear - I Sing I Swim, Arms
  6. Philip Glass - Opening (hmm, I just realized this one is pretty random)
  7. Crystal Fighters - With You
  8. Gus Gus - Moss
  9. Howling Bells - Low Happening
  10. Bloodgroup - My Arms
  11. Natalia Kills - Mirrors (as mentioned in the previous post; acoustic-live version is "better")
  12. Blackfield - Oxygen
  13. Veronica Maggio - Jag kommer, Min hjärta blöder (or basically the entirety of her new album)
  14. Strata - Daylight in the City
  15. Lena & Orup - Nu när du gått

Erm... so basically, it seems that I'm obsessed with Icelandic music (Dikta, Apparat Organ Quartet, múm, Jónsi [from Sigur Rós], Seabear, Gus Gus, and Bloodgroup are all Icelandic). I really love how most Icelandic music has this really nice... feeling to it. I can't describe it.

Iceland is, incidentally, the world's most peaceful nation. Makes sense that their music is so pleasantly ambient.
