Steyr (and giant Schnitzel)

Note: Please click the pictures to view at normal quality (this goes for any pictures I post on this blog). The previews are really crappy.

First, the giant Wiener Schnitzel. So, last week, some friends and I ventured to the famous Figlmüller restaurant for an intense Schnitzel experience. Figlmüller is famous because they make this really thin, but really HUGE Schnitzel (it's bigger than the plate)... Why else is it famous? Because the Schnitzel is freaking delicious. It's the perfect saltiness and the meat is still moist, even though it has been pounded really thin which you might think would cause it to have texture similar to a cracker or something. Figlmüller knows what they're doing (the potato salad is excellent as well). We also had a surprise belated-birthday thing for a friend, which was quite nice. It was a good day.

See? It's huge.

On Friday, I went exploring.

I ended up going to Steyr, which I believe is Austria's 12th largest "city" (hardly a city, I think... it's probably smaller than some suburbs, haha). Anyway, Steyr is located in Oberösterreich/Upper Austria at the point where the Steyr and Enns rivers meet. Apparently the city has been around for over 1000 years or something. I am not going to bore you with a history and such of the town/city. You can look it up on Wikipedia if you're interested.

The "city" (okay, I'm calling it a town from now on because it doesn't feel like a city to me) is situated in a very attractive location and there are some really, really nice views if you climb up in the Tabor section (I'm not sure if that's part of the town or a different town? No idea). Even though there were some annoyances in getting there (the train departed 30 minutes late...), it was worth the trip, I think. A good chunk of the time I was there was spent semi-napping on a hill (incredibly enjoyable and extremely peaceful with "ein schöner Ausblick" as some passerby said).

Just a note -- these pictures look unreal sometimes because the weather was simply magnificent (I know, that just sounds weird, but I really can't think of another way to describe it). Sometimes it even felt... beach-like. Oh, and the water is ridiculously clear/blue. It was amazing. There were a ton of swans too, but somehow they all disappeared when I tried to take photos :(.

Enns River

The confluence of the 2 rivers (yay, river terminology...)

Amazing view (this is where I napped... haha)

Christmas Museum D:

Overall, I really enjoyed venturing out of Vienna and exploring Steyr. Oh, and the best part? THERE WERE NO TOURISTS (besides me). Heck. Yes.

Uhm... So the posts regarding the rest of my Easter holiday travels will come... eventually. I'm getting really, REALLY behind on these things, eh?

Giant schnitzel: looks delicious. My mom I suppose you could say makes a version of that at home, zha2 zhu1 pai2, but certainly not that giant. With ketchup. D: What do you eat schnitzel with, anything?
Steyr: I'd say some of the buildings are tall enough that you could call it a city, perhaps? That is a very nap-worthy view. And lmao, Christmas museum? XD
